Kyle’s Fitness Experience

Kyle has encountered a lot of myths in actual strength training. He’s been in the fitness industry since he was about 16 years old.

Having spent more than half of his life in the field, Kyle has learned from some of the greatest persons and has studied some of the most obscure concepts. To help others, he has made the lessons easy and well understandable for anyone to apply.

Myth on Cardio

One of the misconstrued exercises in the fitness industry is the cardio workout, which basically refers to anything that stresses the cardiovascular system. What is to be understood is that the muscular system is what drives the cardiovascular system.

Many think of it as a way to become healthy. What most fail to realize, however, is the fact that one can’t go on with it unless he enjoys doing it. As Kyle emphasizes, the brain can only form habits around things that it finds pleasurable.

If you can’t keep up with what you do to be fit, you can end up going back to what you used to be.

Cardio for Fat Loss

Cardio workout cannot help you lose fat. This issue can be traced back to the 70s when treadmills became a famous product for businesses. A lot of bogus ideas were created about it then.

Win One for the Gipper

We each have our own stories of success. In today’s podcast, Kyle shares the inspiring story of Knute Rockne. He is said to be the all time greatest college football coach.

Their team was to play the final game in one season when one night one of their players, George Gipp, lay dying. Coach Rockne asked Gipp if there was something he could do for him.

Gip replied, “Coach, there’s gonna come a time that you’re gonna want to win a game more than anything else in the world. When that time comes, tell the boys to get one for the Gipper.” With that, they won the game.

The Happiness Factor

Happiness has a lot to do with success. As Kyle recalls it, every goal is set to provide self with more happiness. Once you achieve happiness, you’re able to help more people.

Happiness deals more with your destination than your present situation. To discuss this further, Kyle recommends the book How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big by Scott Adams.

Formula for Success

According to Scott Adams, success can be achieved in a number of ways. First is by eating right. How we feel or act may depend on what we eat. Food can affect our body’s hormones and biochemistry.

Taking a Stand

Like anyone else, you don’t want to attract people that you can’t get along with. For Kyle, he wants to attract people who wants to get better in life. He wants to attract those who want to achieve their greatest self. And, with this comes the significance of charisma.

Attracting People

Kyle discusses how becoming a celebrity or getting a name for yourself is one of the most powerful ways to position yourself to success. He believes in being the best in one’s choice of industry.

Considering the movie Private Parts, we find that there are two possible reasons why people listen to you--reasons why others would be attracted to you. The first is because people can’t stand having you around; the second is people just love you.

Having a Strong Mindset

Kyle believes that Trump can become one of greatest American heroes in history. For this, he discusses Trump’s similarities with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

While he was still a teenage boy living in Austria, Arnold said he will go to America, become the best bodybuilder, become the best movie star, and enter into politics. No one believed him then. Nonetheless, his strong mindset helped him achieve success.

Changing Reality with New Viewpoints

Every once in awhile we gain a new perspective that would change the reality that we live in. It may be something that we did not expect as we focused on reaching a specific goal. For this, Kyle discusses some valuable insights on goal setting based Scott Adams’ How to Fail.

Achieving Goals and Losing Purpose

Throughout our successes in life, we find the difference between goals and systems. Everyone is familiar with goals. However, just because we set goals does not mean that we’ve set them correctly.

As Scott Adams shares in his book, we exist in a state of nearly continuous failure that we hope will be temporary. Once we achieve a goal, as Kyle discusses, we celebrate and feel terrific only until we realize that we just lost the thing that gave us purpose and direction.

Setting Your System Right

When Kyle had his first bodybuilding competition in 2004, everything in his life revolved around it. It consumed him. He had his mind set on it everyday.

What nobody told Kyle about, however, was what can happen when the contest is over. He shares that if we fail to set our system right, we can go on depression. From his experience, he learned the significance of process in goal setting and wishes to share the valuable lessons with everyone.

Seeing Things Uniquely

One of Kyle’s favorite movies is Signs directed by M. Night Syamalan. Its story revolves around aliens that come to earth. Towards the end of the movie, you’ll find one of the characters sitting inside a room and has a tin foil hat on to protect his brain from alien mind control.

In life, we tend to take too much and just do what we’re told. We usually fail to go outside the box. For this, Kyle discusses the importance of listening and seeing things in a unique way.

Realizing the Power of Momentum

Kyle discusses the power of momentum. Consider the last time when you went on a vacation. It most likely took you a long while to slow down and unwind--to completely feel at rest after a busy life. Most likely again, the same happened when you returned from that vacation; it took you awhile to get going again.

Even without trying to think about it, you had work momentum getting into vacation. You came back afterwards with vacation momentum. Realize that both are powerful and difficult to break.

Gaining Momentum

Momentum is similar to stoking a fire. Once we get it going, you can throw anything to the fire and it’ll burn. Once it sizzles, the heat momentum goes on.

Similarly in life, the hardest part is dealing with the metabolic engine in our brain. Kyle shares that sometimes we don’t have to know the exact goals we’re after. We just have to gain momentum and just get it going daily.

Why Need Kryptonite

Kryptonite is famously known as Superman’s weakness. It comes in many different forms as discovered in many versions of the myth, and is usually ascribed to Superman’s humanity just like Achilles’ heel. Due to its popularity, it is now universally understood as a term describing man’s fundamental weakness.

As we may or may not know, humans bond in struggle. We need to seek out challenges to discover those that are real. Growth requires us to move outside of our comfort zone.
 
Becoming Better with Obstacles

As a boy, Kyle always imagined a mythical character he’s up against. He needed obstacles to help him keep getting better. When Kyle entered bodybuilding, he always imagined guys better than him. They kept him going.

Finding Purpose and Inspiring Others

In this episode, Kyle shares an interesting story about Michael, a bodybuilder who won a lot of bodybuilding shows. He turned down his pro cards, and just kept fighting in nationals until he suddenly disappeared for a number of years.

Anything that comes too easy provides no purpose. Struggles make the diamond. The hotter the heat, the harder the steel. In life, we only inspire others by the struggles we overcome.

Focusing on the Ultimate

Consider this question: Would you rather have 4 quarters or a hundred pennies? It’s basically the same question we may want to consider in certain areas of life, such as friendship. As a young boy, Kyle was extremely interested in finding a best friend. He always valued in-depth relationships.

When we relate this idea on our facebook friends, we find that we can have a lot of friends in our list but only have very little to say about each. When it comes to having friends, Kyle suggests that it is much better to have few options. For this, we refer to the analogy of the daily to-do list.
 
Getting Rid of Brain Magnets

When we have a lot of things to do in mind, our brains may encounter certain brain magnets. They are those that distract us from our ultimate goals. One good strategy to get rid of them is the brain dump.

Find a distraction-free zone where you can declutter your mind of brain magnets. Get a notebook or a blank sheet of paper, and spend some 30-50 minutes writing down anything in your mind. Simply follow your stream of consciousness until you get down to what needs to be done first.

Determining the Four Quarters

Look at what gives you energy and avoid what doesn’t. Distractions may come and lead us astray from our ultimate goals when we don’t know our main focus. You may list down your ultimate goals under the four main areas where you can succeed--financial, freedom, fun, and fulfillment--and focus on them.

Achieving Clarity

Kyle felt sorry for himself when he blew out his left knee. Two and a half years later, he blew his other knee and underwent surgery again. This gave him a different perspective in life. Some people may want others to feel sorry for them as well. When we realize what sorrow is, we need to backtrack for some realizations. For this, we have to understand how the brain operates to achieve clarity.

Human vs Mammalian

In one of his therapies, Kyle was asked why he acts so differently with his dog Matina. Well, most people find it difficult to connect with the present or with their actual situation. This is because they fail to access the emotional part of their brain. To understand this concept better, Kyle gives a clear contrast between the human part of the brain and the mammalian part of the brain.

Making Connections Towards Understanding

Kyle has a very unique personality type that exudes with empathy. He naturally shows this during his wife’s current pregnancy. He gets the same empathy symptoms with her, thus, allowing him to connect with his wife and understand her.

Three Things that Kyle Loves

Kyle loves a lot of things in life. Among them are a growth mindset, philosophy, and horror movies and horror characters. Tune in to the podcast to learn about them!

Kyle believes that you can do whatever you put your mind to. He is an avid learner who believes that anyone can improve. He is also fascinated with the meaning of life, and loves horror movies and horror characters unlike many who would shrink at their very existence.

Three Things that Kyle Hates

As much as he loves a growth mindset, philosophy, and horror, Kyle dislikes narcissistic people, the drop-in vampire, and the bureaucratic ps.

Narcissistic people are those with a big ego problem. They are self-indulgent, and have a lot of insecurities. The drop-in vampire, as discussed in one of the previous episodes, is known to be as a huge time waster. And, bureaucratic ps basically don’t get anything done.

One of Kyle's book recommendations was written by Rap Legend 50 Cent who made his wealth through creating music, movies and books like this one. The book is called ‘The Fiftieth Law’ and its surprising how many people are turned off by this great read. However, inside its covers, Kyle tells you how fear is just an illusion but it's your brain that perceives it as real.

Safety Nets

Having a safety net or ‘plan B’ underneath you for all the just in case moments in life is one of the biggest reasons many people do not reach their true greatness. Kyle learnt this valuable lesson when he left his teaching career with nothing but an idea, massive amounts of passion and a drive to succeed. Having a Plan B stops you from pushing into true greatness. You'll never know what you’re truly capable of in life if you constantly live with a safety net under you.

Clarity

If you want to achieve anything at all in life, you must have clarity. Having a clear path to follow is essential. Kyle says that having clarity is like a spider on his web: you're much more connected to your environment. The problem many people face is that they only look what's on the surface, searching for short term gains but fail to see the long term benefits.

Discipline
It's important you take control of your life and have a set of rules. Kyle lives his life using a few key rules which he shares the first five in today’s podcast. Kyle quotes “discipline will get you everything in life”. Discipline doesn't mean not having fun.

Responsibility
As soon as you start taking full responsibility for everything in your life, you’re going to give yourself more freedom. What most people spend their lives doing is blaming everyone else for their own problems. Kyle’s big ‘aha’ moment was when he took control of every single thing that manifested in his life.

Deadlines
If you find yourself procrastinating and putting off the important tasks that will move you forward in life, then urgency and specificity is what you must learn. Having a deadline to work towards is how you achieve your goals. Without them, there simply is no urgency.

Judgement
Kyle shares his 25% rule and why you shouldn't be creating to please everyone. The truth is, when you start standing for something, you will get people who dislike you. But those who do like you, won't just like you, they'll love you.
